Calling All Fitness Fanatics: The Apple Watch Series 7 Is Here

The Apple Watch is back! The new Apple Watch Series 7, released just last month, may be your new best friend. The major selling point? Its larger display! Apple’s emphasis on a larger screen for the Apple Watch Series 7 allows for a plethora of improvements to the Apple Watch user experience, allowing you to do more on the go! Let’s talk about it.

Apple is currently selling three models of the Apple Watch on their website: the Series 7 starts at $399, the Apple Watch SE (Special Edition) starts at $279, and the Series 3 starts at $199. The price of each Apple Watch varies significantly based on the band type, case material, etc., providing you with lots of customization  options. The Series 7 is also available in a total of five different colors: Green, Blue, Product (Red), Starlight, Midnight.

The Series 7’s larger display is a result of Apple “completely re-engineer[ing]” the watch, “reducing the borders by 40% which allows for nearly 20% more screen area than Series 6. And over 50% more screen area than Series 3.” This expanded screen area allows you to view 59% more text on screen than the Series 6! This means that even though the dimensions of the watch haven’t substantially changed from the Apple Watch Series 6, the Series 7 offers a bigger display that helps you see and do more!

Here are some of the major features that come with the updated display of the Series 7:

  1. Always-On Retina display: keeps the display on so you can check the time or your notifications whenever you’d like!

  2. Bigger buttons: allow you to take advantage of the Calculator, Stopwatch, Timer, and other apps more easily.

  3. New QWERTY keyboard: Finally! A keyboard that allows you to type your texts, emails, and more right from your watch! You can also type using Scribble by writing out your messages with your finger.

Notable benefits:

  1. Faster charging: charges 33% faster than Series 6

  2. TWO watch faces that are specific to the Series 7: “Contour” and “Modular Duo” (Contour situates numbers on the edges of the screen, Modular Duo creates two full-width setups stacked on top of each other instead of just one), giving you flexibility to customize your watch setup.

  3. Improved durability: “50% thicker front crystal - twice as thick at its tallest point than apple Watch Series 6” makes the Series 7 crack, dust, and water resistant.

But enough about the hardware, let’s move on to the Apple Watch Series 7’s incredible software! The Series 7 is compatible with watchOS 8, the newest Apple smartwatch system that includes new features like digital house key support, overnight respiration tracking, workout tracking options for sports such as Pilates, photo transfer capabilities, new mindfulness programs, and more. The watchOS 8 is not exclusive to the Series 7 (if you have a Series 3 or later, it is available to download!); however, some of the features are only accessible on newer models. One example would be the new feature for cyclists, which automatically detects when you begin a bike ride and allows you to track the workout, and is supported only by Apple Watch SE, Series 6, and Series 7.

If you are already an owner of an Apple Watch SE or Series 6, the Series 7 does not offer a huge difference in terms of capabilities. But if you’re new to the smartwatch game and looking to kickstart your fitness journey, the Apple Watch Series 7 is the most technologically advanced and user friendly of all its predecessors! Apple calls it “the ultimate device for a healthy life” and we have to agree.
